Will You ARISE & Help Me?
Dear Valued Subscriber,
I arrived back in
town late Monday to a quiet, but nice birthday the next day.
September 20th last year was nice too, but LOUD, as it was
my 50th birthday and a super surprise party was put on courtesy of both my
lovely daughters. Many great memories came from that
boisterous evening with family and friends as did a wee bit of a
hangover, but at this age now, think I prefer nice and
QUIET:-)
Hopefully you
received, and acted on, the special email I sent about the
Hurricane Katrina long-term relief effort that the founder on the
International Council of Online Professionals and I have put
together. Unfortunately, the server chose to act up the few days
following our launch and many could not get there. So, if you are a new subscriber, or missed that email
or couldn't get to the site, here
is the link where every nickel of your donation will go
directly to victims:

My eldest daughter,
Sara, now a single mom raising my two energetic grandsons, just
purchased and moved into a newer home in a nice subdivision in
Tecumseh, the town next to Windsor. She's been hard at work
painting and laying hardwood floors in the gaps between her 12
hour shifts as a charge nurse at one of our hospitals. It's her
28th birthday this Friday and we are getting together in her new
abode to have a father and daughter celebration. Sara leaves for a
well-deserved weeklong vacation in Mexico the first week of
October and guess who's watching my boys?
I recently took my
eldest and 'ruff 'n tumble' grandson, Corbin (almost 6), to his
karate lesson. The former national champion instructor (6th degree
black belt) starts each lesson off with a group chant, "I am
unique, I am important, I am special". Then they begin practicing
their moves in tightly timed, rotating fashion always giving their
mates the congratulatory high-five after completing each one.
Every student is given the opportunity to demonstrate a particular
move and high praise always follows. Lastly, they split into
groups and perform exercises that include the new moves they have
been taught competing against each other and learning the
invaluable concept of teamwork. Corbin just loves it and I left
the lesson knowing the self-esteem and self-discipline he will
receive will benefit him for the rest of his life.
My youngest
grandson, the creative and sensitive one, has an amazing sense of
rhythm for a four year old child. Mom, who spent her youth in a
dance competition group and won many medals in places such as New
York and Las Vegas, has taught Cameron some very slick dances. He
was just enrolled in lessons at the same dance school Sara
attended and although I haven't been there to see him yet, Cam was
proud to show me what he learned in his first lesson. Just hoping
Corbin doesn't practice his karate chops on his younger brother!
We are in the final
stages (finally) of finishing up our new weight-loss product.
Although it has taken a lot longer than planned, there is nothing
like this anywhere and I can't 'weight' to be able to tell you
about Get Slim Right Now in a week or two! Please keep a
close eye on your Inbox.
Again, it's been a
fabulous month with a lot of new subscribers and because I
received so much positive feedback from those who took advantage
of the (rare) solo offering in July, I decided to give everyone
the opportunity to review
Dream Life Discovery. I now have my package and all I can
say is Wow! If you are a new subscriber or missed the special

YOUR
ARISE ARTICLE
A Matter of
Knowing THAT Already
by John Harricharan
When my son, Jonathan, was much younger, I would
try to help him with some of his tasks, whether it was his homework, chores or
even just plain, simple advice. Many a time he would look at me in exasperation
and say, "I know that, dad." Even when he did solicit my
help directly, he would listen, but not "hear" what I had to say.
Now, mind you, I do not claim to be a paragon of excellent advice or wisdom, but
many of the things I told him would have saved him tremendous amounts of time,
frustration and heartaches. As Jonathan grew older, he learned to listen a bit
more, so instead of discounting most of what he heard, he would evaluate, weigh
the merits or lack of, and then make choices based on what was consistent with
his idea of right and wrong or good and bad.
The Universe speaks to us all the time. It doesn't always do it in ways that we
expect. Sometimes a message comes from a friend and at other times, it may be
someone we do not really care for who brings a very clear message to us. There
are times when the messages
are sent through dreams, or books, or radio, TV, the Internet and even the more
prosaic form of the telephone.
If we close our minds and think that "we know that already," we may miss the one
little point that could have saved us a lot of trouble. Keeping an open mind
gives us an opportunity to evaluate the communications we receive and then make
decisions based on our own true feelings.
The story is told about some scientists who went into an apple orchard to study
apples. They were busy with their notepads and pencils, measuring the dimensions
of the apples they found. They observed and noted the size, weight and colors of
the fruit while off to their left sat one of their fellow scientists under a
large apple tree. He was quietly eating an apple.
All the other scientists knew about apples. The one who was eating the apple
knew "apples." Knowing about something does not necessarily mean knowing the
thing. Knowing about God does not mean knowing God. Knowing about the secrets
and laws of the Universe will not do us much good if there is not the deep
knowing in our hearts and souls.
There have been hundreds of thousands of people who've read one or more of my
books. Among the many wonderful email I receive would be one or two short, to
the point comments saying something to the effect of, "I know all that already.
I've been practicing all that stuff for years and so you haven't told me
anything new."
My feeling is that there is really nothing new. As the Book of Proverbs says,
"There is nothing new under the sun." What I think is new is the interpretation
we bring to things, the different way we look at the information we receive. We
can choose to see if, perhaps, there are any gems in what we hear and see or any
wisdom in what we read or listen to.
By opening up our minds to new possibilities, we may find that we are being led
by that glorious, higher self within us to explore possibilities that have the
potential to bring us peace, joy, wealth, success -- all good things.
If someone tells you that you shouldn't do something because it doesn't work,
what that person is really saying is that it doesn't work for him. Listen to
your heart, gather all the information and let the Universe show you how to make
it work.
Jonathan listens a lot more these days. He reflects and thinks about what he
hears, sees or reads. He is willing to listen to points of view that are totally
different from his own without getting defensive as he used to. As a result, he
has become more tolerant, more compassionate and, in many ways, more successful.
He has grown into a fantastic young man who, I am sure, will bring much credit
to all that he chooses to do.
Let us not be like the person in the little ditty who says:
"In matters controversial, my perception's really fine. I always see both points
of view -- the one that's wrong and mine."
Let us, instead, listen to all that comes to our notice and after reflecting on
it, exhibit the qualities of tolerance, peace, understanding and compassion. And
as Commander Spock would say, "Live long and prosper."

AIN'T WHAT I USED TO BE
by Steve Goodier
It has been said, "Be
contented with what you have, but never too contented with what you
are."
There is a story that comes out of Asia about a farmer who saw a
tiger's tail swishing between two large rocks. In a moment of haste,
he grabbed the tail and pulled. All of a sudden he realized he had
an angry tiger by the tail and only two rocks stood between him and
the tiger's teeth and claws! So there he remained, afraid to loosen
his grip on the enraged animal's tail lest he surely be killed.
A monk happened by and the farmer called out in desperation, "Come
over here and help me kill this tiger!"
The holy man said, "Oh, no. I cannot do that. I cannot take the life
of another." Then he went on to deliver a homily against killing.
All the while, the farmer was holding tightly to the tail of an
angry tiger.
When the monk finally finished his sermon, the farmer pleaded, "If
you won't kill the tiger, then at least come hold its tail while I
kill it."
The monk thought that perhaps it would be all right to simply hold
the tiger's tail, so he grabbed hold and pulled. The farmer,
however, turned and walked away down the road.
The monk shouted after him, "Come back here and kill the tiger!"
"Oh, no," the farmer replied. "You have converted me!"
Conversion is nothing more than change. With money, conversion can
be the change of a bill into coin or the change of the currency of
one country into the currency of another. On the human level,
conversion can be a change in beliefs, a change in ideas, a change
in attitudes, a change in behaviors or a change in priorities. If
the largest room in the world is "room for improvement," then it is
good to leave plenty of room for change.
I like the old southern American slave's prayer: "O God, I ain't
what I ought to be and I ain't what I'm a-goin' to be. But thanks to
you, I ain't what I used to be!"
Here is a person who is traveling an exciting adventure! A life of
change! A life of growth! And always leaving room for improvement.
It's the only way to travel.

GIVING
BACK
You might already support these or similar organizations, but it's
the sad truth that we can never really do enough to help people,
especially children. Here is what I support and encourage you to
review:
The
Internet Toy Drive
Founded by Anne Marie Baugh and myself, and sponsored by Drew
Bledsoe (#11, 2001 Super Bowl Champion quarterback), we are official
corporate sponsors of the U.S. Marine's Toys for Tots program.
My
WorldVision Children
This is the special group of children from around the world that I
sponsor. WorldVision is a Christian organization that has been
around for decades and almost every penny donated goes directly to
these needy children and their families. Nothing beats receiving a
handwritten letter, or even an email now, from "your
child":-) You can even buy chickens or cows that get right to
these families in dire need!
St.
Jude Children's Hospital
My father was a lifelong musician and played piano in bands with
Danny Thomas (founder of St. Jude and father of Marlo Thomas) among
others during the depression, thirties and early World War II years.
Understandably, this world famous research hospital is close to my
heart:-)
Parenting
with Dignity P
If you are a parent, expecting to be one in the
future, or even believe you've done your parenting job, do yourself
a great favor and check out this fabulous resource! Drew Bledsoe,
his father and family members, my great friend Tom Heatherington and
many more have established an absolutely wonderful foundation
devoted to the betterment of children and families (Mac Bledsoe was
interviewed on ABC's 20/20 this year).
