Will You ARISE & Help Me?
Dear Valued Subscriber,
The summer is going
by way too quickly for my liking! I do love the
fast approaching fall season but have really enjoyed myself this summer and am putting
this issue together before I head out on yet another weekend
excursion.
On my way out of
town last weekend my car broke down - at my mechanic's shop of all
places where I had stopped to have everything checked out. As it
was a comprehensive repair and he was swamped with work I decided
to take the train. Came back to my place and packed a few books.
One was a best-seller that was given to me a few years ago as a
birthday gift called "Who Moved My Cheese?" Although I
should have read this a long time ago, I was glad to have enjoyed
a marvelous train ride and ingested the wisdom of this little gem.
I highly recommend you pick this book up if you haven't as yet
read it.
It was very humbling
to receive so many nice comments about my annual feature of
"The Ice Cream 'Comb' Story"
last issue. Many asked how my
daughter was doing. Teri is nearly 24 now, is doing great and
she's getting married next year in, of all places, Niagara Falls.
Guess I better shore up the ol' bank account before too long!
It's been a fabulous
month with a lot of new subscribers and because I received so much
positive feedback from those who took advantage of the last (rare) solo offering
in July, I decided to give everyone
the opportunity to review
Dream Life Discovery.
If you are a new subscriber or missed the special email or didn't
check this great program out please do yourself a favor and
Also, my great
friend and mentor, John Harricharan, called and gave me the
opportunity to offer his life-changing masterpiece, The
Power Pause, one last time at half price. His original
campaign was very successful because so many of the top self-help entities helped spread
the word. John is aware of the rate that ARISE! is growing and
he wanted every new subscriber to have an opportunity to save 50%,
plus, receive
the
fabulous bonus package (you get my 49.97 top-selling ebook, Success: A Spiritual Matter, as just one of them).
Many of you took advantage of the initial offering (and many wrote
to thank me - and John as well) and I was pleased when he called
about this second chance. If this is the first time you've heard
about the half-price Power Pause, or, if you missed taking
advantage a few months ago, here's what will be
your last
chance to save 50% on a powerful product that both John
and I guarantee will change
your life!
Assuming you enjoy
this publication can I ask you to do me a small, but at the same
time, huge favor?
Would you choose 3 people from your Address Book right now and
send them this or the main page link to ARISE! -
http://www.arise.themirrorezine.com - and suggest they
subscribe. Thank you, I'd really appreciate that!
Linda Aspen Baxter and I have been
equally busy this past year and we decided to extend the submission
deadline for "The
Ultimate Teenager's Survival Guide" until September 30th, 2005. Inquiries and
submissions (some great stories received and being developed with
the authors) are
growing but we still need more, so please,
if
you know of a school or a teacher or a community group/leader that is centered
around teenagers, I strongly encourage you to visit our site, and contact those persons to
help spread the word.
Please
send those people here. Thank you!
As you may well know
by now, I have a small group of favorite writers/authors whose
articles I believe will impact you on a very positive level. I've
featured a few articles from Steve Brunkhorst in the past because he
writes from the heart, and very deeply, and I've chosen a wonderful
piece from his Aussie pen entitled Inspiring Values of
Unforgettable Teachers as the feature article. As we are all
teachers in life, I believe you will enjoy this one very much. Once again Steve, thank you!
Now, please kick back
(and if you can't right now, just click on the Print This Page icon
at the top, scoop the pages from your printer and take it to bed
with you:-) and enjoy this issue of ARISE!
As always, my
greatest wishes for your complete success,

Rick Beneteau

Inspiring
Values of Unforgettable Teachers
by Steve Brunkhorst
All of us recall special teachers — people who not
only taught us but inspired us in ways that changed our lives. William Arthur
Ward once said, "The mediocre teacher tells. The good teacher explains. The
superior teacher demonstrates. The great teacher inspires." Here are five
life-changing values inspired by unforgettable teachers.
The Teachers I Will Always Remember...
... Taught the Value of Learning and Knowledge
They were enthusiastic about their subject. However, they gave more than
knowledge. They showed how learning could enhance creativity, spark interests,
and uncover talents. They instilled in students a curiosity to learn and an
undying passion to keep learning.
... Taught the Value of Respect
They treated others with honor. They explained how kind words, and sometimes
silence, could prevent hurtful confrontations and turn enemies into friends.
They taught the value of respect for the community as well as the individual.
... Taught the Value of Integrity
They demonstrated empathy for those who were ill or suffering from personal
loss. They would go the extra mile to offer support. Their ethics inspired
students to live with courage and approach life with honesty, dignity, and
self-worth.
... Taught the Value of Responsibility
They taught that personal actions have consequences and that the individual must
be accountable for his or her choices. They emphasized that when people think
others are to blame for problems, that very thought is the real problem. They
taught that each student was ultimately responsible for his or her learning and
its impact on their future.
... Taught the Value of Perseverance
They taught that education continues until our last breath. They told stories
about the hard times they had faced, and how God had often turned difficulties
into blessings. They refused to let students quit after repeated failures. They
demonstrated that "Faith is the assurance of things not yet seen."
Not all of these teachers taught in formal classrooms. Nor did they all have a
formal education. Some of them are still teaching, and the education they
provide is priceless.
I believe that the greatest gifts we can give our children are the same kind of
values these teachers demonstrate. Then our children can also become
unforgettable teachers, sharing values that will inspire happiness and faith for
future generations.

The Pond
The pond was properly shaped and fixed up for swimming when it was
built. One evening the old farmer decided to go down to the pond, as
he hadn't been there for a while, and look it over. He grabbed a
five-gallon bucket to bring back some fruit. As he neared the pond,
he heard voices shouting and laughing with glee. As he came closer
he saw it was a bunch of young women skinny-dipping in his pond. He
made the women aware of his presence and they all went to the deep
end.
One of the women shouted to him, "We're not coming out until you
leave!"
The old man frowned, "I didn't come down here to watch you ladies
swim naked
or make you get out of the pond naked." Holding the bucket up he
said, "I'm
here to feed the alligator."
Moral: Old men can still think fast.

TROUBLE'S GIFT
by Steve Goodier
Mark Twain once said, "By
trying, we can easily learn to endure adversity. Another man's, I
mean." Actually, enduring other people's adversity is not always
easy...especially when our loved ones suffer. But a vital ingredient
to successful living is found in creatively handling our own
problems.
We all face troubles. Daily. Some are no more than minor irritants;
others will threaten our very lives. We can curse our problems. We
can feel victimized by them. We can give in to them. We can also
fight them. We can learn to live with them. And we can even use them
-- use them to help us do and become that which may have been
impossible without them.
Case in point is Marvella Bayh, former wife of Indiana Senator Birch
Bayh. She lost an eight-year struggle with cancer. It began with a
mastectomy in 1971 and ended in 1979 when Marvella was 46 years old.
But listen to the legacy of hope that she left millions of people:
"These years since cancer came to me have been the most rewarding,
the most filling, the happiest in my life." Rewarding? Filling?
Happiest? Is she really describing life with cancer? She goes on to
say this:
"I have learned to value life, to cherish it, to put my priorities
in order and to begin my long-postponed dream of being useful in my
own right."
Since her mastectomy, Marcella Bayh devoted countless hours to
American Cancer Society projects, supporting anti-cigarette crusades
and promoting school programs to teach girls to examine their
breasts for signs of cancer. One month before her death, she was
awarded the society's Hubert H. Humphrey Inspiration Award.
Marvella Bayh's disease actually helped her to find fulfillment
during the last years of her life. What many people never discover
is that, when given a chance, problems can do that. Not that we
should go out and try to find as much trouble as possible; as you
know, trouble has a way of finding us. But those troubles, too, can
be useful.
Writer Richard Bach says, "Every problem has a gift for you in its
hands." Will you open that gift and discover just what it is that
your adversity is giving you? For that very gift, which can only be
obtained by going through those difficult times, may turn out to be
valuable beyond belief.

GIVING
BACK
You might already support these or similar organizations, but it's
the sad truth that we can never really do enough to help people,
especially children. Here is what I support and encourage you to
review:
The
Internet Toy Drive
Founded by Anne Marie Baugh and myself, and sponsored by Drew
Bledsoe (#11, 2001 Super Bowl Champion quarterback), we are official
corporate sponsors of the U.S. Marine's Toys for Tots program.
My
WorldVision Children
This is the special group of children from around the world that I
sponsor. WorldVision is a Christian organization that has been
around for decades and almost every penny donated goes directly to
these needy children and their families. Nothing beats receiving a
handwritten letter, or even an email now, from "your
child":-) You can even buy chickens or cows that get right to
these families in dire need!
St.
Jude Children's Hospital
My father was a lifelong musician and played piano in bands with
Danny Thomas (founder of St. Jude and father of Marlo Thomas) among
others during the depression, thirties and early World War II years.
Understandably, this world famous research hospital is close to my
heart:-)
Parenting
with Dignity P
If you are a parent, expecting to be one in the
future, or even believe you've done your parenting job, do yourself
a great favor and check out this fabulous resource! Drew Bledsoe,
his father and family members, my great friend Tom Heatherington and
many more have established an absolutely wonderful foundation
devoted to the betterment of children and families (Mac Bledsoe was
interviewed on ABC's 20/20 this year).
